A monthly community event blending film, food, and environmental reflection

Cine con Sabor Local is a grassroots film and food series hosted in Playa La Saladita, Guerrero, Mexico. Each month—from October through March—we partner with local restaurants to screen short environmental documentaries that spark conversation around ocean conservation, plastic pollution, and sustainable living.

The event is free and open to all. Films are selected for their relevance to coastal communities and are often available in Spanish to ensure accessibility. After each screening, attendees are invited to stay and enjoy the restaurant’s menu, supporting local businesses and reinforcing our commitment to a circular economy rooted in community wellbeing.

This program is part of Proyecto Saladita’s broader commitment to community-led education, sustainable tourism, and coastal protection. By combining storytelling with local flavors, Cine con Sabor Local creates space for connection, learning, and action.

Film Selection & Access We carefully select short documentaries that speak to our community’s coastal realities—such as Smog of the Sea by Jack Johnson and other titles from trusted environmental film libraries. In many cases, we’ve donated to access these films legally and respectfully, ensuring that filmmakers are credited and their work is honored.

Themes include:

  • Ocean health and marine plastic
  • Sustainable tourism and local stewardship
  • Climate resilience and coastal communities
  • Food systems and ecological wellbeing
